15 people braved the snow to arrive at the GSG hut on Friday night. The fire was lit and discussions about the next day were had.
5 groups set off on saturday morning with the hope of clear weather.
Gina, Alan and Michael G enjoyed great views from Canisp, with a very graceful topple near the top from Alan.
Ian D, Ian M, Carol, Anush and Jim were feeling energetic and so trekked from the hut to Canisp (but caught a lift back). The underfoot conditions were good for playing with crampons once they had got over the heather/bog (after turning off the road a bit too early….)
Ewen and Andreas headed to the Bone caves and over Beinn nan Cnaimhseag, Peter, Marion and Robin doing a similar walk in reverse.
Mel and Ian Mitchell went for a wander near the bone caves, practised ice axe arrests and then lunched on the path between loch assynt and Suileag bothy with amazing views of Quinag.
Once rested a massive pile of tatties and neeps were peeled and prepared, haggis was cooked. Robin, as is traditional, performed the address to the haggis. Soup for starter; haggis, tatties and neeps for main; and a massive pile of desserts were devoured by the group who were joined by Sarah and Richard for the night.
The evening entertainment was guitar and voice from Alan and Gina, performing a few Burns poems to music, alongside the noise of hail and wind against the windows!!
Once again, the weather was clear on the sunday and so a few groups went out for a walk.
Ian Meek went for a run. Robin, Anush, Gina, Alan and Michael had a walk around Stac Pollaidh. Sarah, Richard, Carol, Mel and Ian walked up Ullapool Hill.
We had a great weekend with much better weather than was forecast and too much food as usual!!
