Welcome to the IMC.

We hope the information given here will contain something interesting or useful to everyone irrespective of their ability or level of experience, particularly amongst those new to the Club.

The IMC is a collection of individuals with a wide range of interests in mountaineering activities. The Club does not have designated leaders or professionally qualified instructors; everyone should be aware of this, especially if providing assistance to or receiving assistance from any other Club members.

We usually have;

  • a weekend meet each month, staying in Mountaineering huts, hostels or bunkhouses;

  • a day meet each month, usually hillwalking; and

  • a climbing meet each month, either at a climbing wall or crag.

The Club aims to provide members with as much background information as possible to help them enjoy the hills in safety. Everyone’s level of experience is different, and it is worth noting the following extract from the participation statement of the UIAA (The International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation):

Climbing and Mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”

Most of your IMC subscription goes to Mountaineering Scotland (MS) and gives you Liability Insurance.  Please follow the link which shows what is covered; note that this is not a comprehensive Travel and Activity insurance as sold by the British Mountaineering Council, and does not cover paid instructing or leading.  Please also look at the MS Frequently Asked Questions about insurance.  You have a responsibility to report any incident that may result in a claim on this form which should be sent to the IMC Secretary.  The insurance brokers have a website that gives further info.

If your MS dues are paid through another club or you are an individual MS member, you do not have to pay this portion of your subscription again through the IMC. Your IMC membership also gives you access to MS training courses and other member benefits.

To ensure that all members have the most up-to-date information, you will receive email updates on a regular basis including the following:

  • Membership list – you need to opt into this – and Meets list (updated regularly)

  • Invitations to Club discount events at local outdoor equipment retailers

  • A copy of the Constitution is sent to all new members
