Bynack More; and Little Wyvis

Bynack More

We had a party of 5 who met at 8.30am in the Allt Mor car park, Richard H, May B, Wendell M, Karolina P and aspirant member Martyn W. The car park is operated by Forestry  and Land Scotland (a worthwhile rebranding?) and again the machine rejected our well intentioned cash. The track led north east through the lovely native woods to the Green Loch. This was new for me as I have always approached the Ryvoan Pass from Glenmore lodge. We followed the well made path on the standard route to Bynack Stables (no horses!) at the north end of Strath Nethy and then onto the shoulder of Bynack More towards the Lairig an Laoigh.

The temperature was dropping as we reached the snow line and unfortunately the low cloud masked the wonderful views I know to be there from previous climbs. We took shelter at the base of the sharp incline up the mountain for a quick bite to eat and the donning of further clothing. We didn't stay long as the cold was seeping into the bones. Wendell chose a comfortable line around the leeward western side of the rock outcrops and we easily reached the summit (1090m) for a quick cup of coffee and photos. We are really quite a colourful lot although the weather was a sharp reminder that we now need winter gear.

We were obviously the first on the summit that day given that there were no tracks in the snow . However we met 4 parties as we descended uneventfully on the same route reaching the car park as dusk  was creeping in. It was a thoroughly enjoyable climb, with good company despite the lack of more extensive views although the cloud had lifted a bit on the way down revealing some typical winter colours.

Little Wyvis

A group of four ventured up Little Wyvis last weekend.  Julie and Helen had shared a lift from Inverness and started walking from the Silver Bridge car park slightly before 9.30am.  The walk followed good tracks and the weather and views were quite good for much of the way up. Peter and Marion had left a bit earlier and had done a good bit of the climb by the time we caught up with them.  We then bumped into someone Helen knew from French classes who greeted her in French, which was a surprise!

As it was quite early we decided not to stop for a cuppa on the way up, but carry on to the summit and have a break there instead.  However the cloud then came down, it got colder and was quite icy underfoot.  It was chilly at the summit and quite windy, so we didn't hang around and headed back down after some chocolate and a quick selfie.  We had a lunch break on the way down and got some good views when the cloud cleared.  We walked back down the same way and got back to the car park in good time after an enjoyable day.
