Slioch

Slioch summit party - May, Margaret, Victoria, Richard, Cerian and Mathew

Our proposed walk in the Fannaichs sadly had to be changed due to the Ullapool road being closed following an accident at the junction just after Garve. We later learned that the motorcyclist involved did not survive his injuries and we send our thoughts and condolences to his family and friends.

We were all caught up in the queue which formed before the accident site, but managed to get in touch with each other and agreed to do Slioch instead. It was a perfect hill day: the sun was shining, there were no midges, no bracken and just enough of a breeze to keep us from overheating on the climb.  We stopped for lunch barely 150m up the hill, but we'd had a late start and a long walk in. We indulged in another break at the lochans just before the final pull up to the summit. It had become quite hazy by the time we reached the summit but the views were epic, even if they weren't crystal clear. The breeze now became somewhat less pleasant and we donned our jackets again to continue the circuit. We were back at the cars after 7 hours and 40 minutes, happy with our day's efforts. Trevor, who had probably done three times the distance and certainly a good deal more ascent and descent was still bouncing with energy and I don't think I was alone in regarding him wearily with amazement and a tinge of jealousy!

Taking part: Cerian, Victoria, May, Margaret, Matt, Richard, Nell and Trevor the dog.
