Strathfarrar Munros
Sgùrr na Ruaidhe, Càrn nan Gobhar, Sgùrr a' Choire Ghlais and Sgùrr Fhuar-thuill
A group of ten set off to the Glen of Strathfarrar to complete the majestic four munros walk. Arriving at the car park a bit earlier, awaiting for the lady to unlock the gates gave us the chance to grab a cuppa and to chat away, getting in the mood for the big walk. After the gates finally opened, we regrouped into fewer cars. After a short drive passed the gates, we arrived at the starting point car park still happy and chatting away. Two of the cars continued a bit further down the glen to be left there, so it was going to be easier coming back from the hills. The group awaited patiently for the others to return. Once everyone gathered, we set off for the hills with reasonably nice weather.
Unfortunately, this was not to last, damp cloud with poor visibility and a chilly wind greeted us towards the summit of Sgùrr na Ruaidhe. With our group spread out from the leisurely start, Wendell rallied us with a pep talk, ensuring we stuck together for the remainder of the walk.
From there, we headed northwest towards Càrn nan Gobhar. Just as we reached the bealach, the clouds briefly parted, graciously revealing our path upward. At the summit, we found ourselves hunting for the elusive cairn amidst the fog, which we had inadvertently bypassed. After locating it, we pressed on over more boulders. Our spirits lifted as we found shelter and tucked into lunch. Then we reached a significant milestone—Wendell’s 200th Munro: Sgùrr a' Choire Ghlais, crowned by its massive summit cairn. The ridge walk became easier from here, and we were treated to glimpses of Sgùrr Fhuar-thuill as the clouds lifted, offering us a view of the approach.
Just a short distance after the summit we spotted the little cairn that marked our descent. Heading down towards the picturesque Loch Toll a' Mhuic, we followed a scenic track, admiring the waterfalls and soaking in the serene beauty of the glen. It was a challenging yet rewarding day and we were happy to see the waiting cars meaning we avoided the 6km walk back along the road.
